A Kid from Last Century

October 28, 2025

I grew up in the era of the Spice Girls and TLC. Waiting for the school bus outside with a crowd of other kids was the post-school normal. On the drive with my folks back home, there were no screens to stare at, so we chatted and discussed what had happened that day. We laughed. We looked at the scenery. And we learned from each other in person.

As students, comparison of each other was inevitable, but it was peer-to-peer and not digitally anonymous. We had no access to the goings-on of the global stage. We didn’t idolize “influencers” from the other side of the world. Arguing about the best Power Ranger or choosing a country when the Risk board came out was the closest to global strategy concerning us. We were young and, most importantly, we had the space to just be kids.
